The Fife Coastal Path is one of the finest ways of experiencing some of the truly spectacular scenery and amazing coastline that Fife has to offer. Managed, developed and promoted by Fife Coast and Countryside Trust, the path runs for over 90 miles from Culross in the south to the Tay Bridge at the gateway to Dundee.

On its peaceful journey through the beautiful Kingdom of Fife, the path passes through both historical and natural landscapes. It caters for a range of walking abilities with some stretches more challenging and others being more easily accessible.

However, the path can offer you the opportunity to experience dramatic cliffs, distinctive rock formations, long sandy beaches and grass tufted sand dunes.

For lovers of nature, you may be able to watch seals basking in the sun or dolphins at play off the coast. Listen to the seabirds as they soar above the waves, smell the fresh air and feel a sense of freedom!

For example, the East Neuk section between Pittenweem and Elie was recently voted as the number one coastal walk in Britain by The Guardian (2 May 2007).

This section of the path offers a real opportunity for you to unwind and relax on a wonderful walk through scenery including windmills, saltpans, rockpools and castles, all in a few miles! The more adventurous can discover Fife’s best kept secret – the Elie Chain walk.

If you have a sense of adventure and a head for heights, this is definitely a walk with a difference.

A series of carved steps accompanied by vertical and horizontal chains allows access to cliffs, caves, basalt columns and a unique coastline.

So, if you are feeling adventurous, why not set yourself a challenge and conquer this unique “via ferrata” – the only one in Scotland.

The coastal path also offers a wide range of quality accommodation providers, award winning restaurants, golf clubs and friendly atmospheric local pubs and cafes. So come and walk the walk, the path is open 365 days a year and it’s all free!
