award winning beaches

Fife is proud of the reputation of it’s beaches. You’ll relax in the knowledge that the water and beaches have been recognised as reaching the highest standards in cleanliness.

The Blue Flag is recognised worldwide and those towns that achieve the accolade must meet tough standards ensuring that the facilities are clean and welcoming and that there are high levels of environmental management and information provided. As a pre-requisite the bathing water must meet the highest standards and lifesaving equipment and/or lifeguards must be present.

As Scotland has some of the UK's most beautiful but also most remote and isolated beaches a second award scheme called the Seaside Award is also awarded. This accolade recognises the more rural nature of Scotland's beaches and the criteria places more emphasis on litter management procedures, beach and information provision along with community involvement than on the facilities present.

The Seaside Award recognises beaches that are used by walkers, surfers, and wildlife enthusiasts as well as family groups.

Fife has Five blue flag and nine Seaside award winning beaches.
